The Milking Shed is a cute and cosy studio space in the middle of the lush green hills and beautiful vistas of the Hawkesbury region west of Sydney. Whisper quiet, the only thing you might hear is a koala chewing on a gum leaf outside your window. Curl up next to the fire with a book, or sit on the deck with a hot cuppa and take in the view. It is a million miles from care. Milk, home-made butter, bread from our oven and honey from our bees is provided for this delightful country experience.
The space
The Milking Shed is a cute annex to our stables. It is built around a tree and has a lovely view of the valley below. You may have a miniature donkey poke his nose over the front porch for a pat or a carrot. There are a couple of dairy cows in the paddocks. We often have koalas in the trees, and the cheerful toll of the bellbirds that our area is famous for can be heard across the valley. As the cabin is quite rustic it is not at all suitable for children, babies or pets.
We are only a few kms from the cute bustling township of Kurrajong. 10-15 mins away is the Bilpin and Hillbilly Ciders and the various pick your own fruit and/or flower farms. A short drive away are the historic townships of Windsor and Richmond. We are 30 minutes from the Royal Botanical Gardens at Mt Tomah. We have a paddock with a couple of hundred lavender plants that feed our bees. When in season you are welcome to pick yourself a bunch! In addition, there are plenty of games, books, cards, or drawing/painting to do if you prefer to just stay in the cabin. The TV has Netflix and other streaming services, and the wifi is excellent.
Guest access
The cabin is 200m further down the driveway from our home. You park in the shelter next to the cabin. Turn off Hermitage Rd and drive along the private road we share with our neighbours. An automatic gate will let you in to the driveway and our three very happy-to-see-you dogs.
Other things to note
The Milking Shed just has a kitchenette. There is a small fridge, microwave, toaster, and sink as well as coffee and tea facilities, plates bowls cups etc. Steph will bake you a loaf of sourdough on the day you check in, and provide home made butter from our cow and honey from our bees. The cabin is not equipped for more sophisticated cooking, and we encourage you to try any of the local areas wonderful places to eat. Message Steph for suggestions!
There is no smoking anywhere on the property.
We are in a very natural setting. There are often koalas in the trees and kangaroos or long-nosed bandicoots in the fields outside. There are other animals around such as dogs, donkeys, chickens and cows, one of whom is milked most mornings. We have a gaggle of ducks that like to drop in. The Shed is definitely not for people who don’t like or are afraid of animals.
