Summary: The hotel building was acceptable, but the lower ranking is due to the location of the hotel in the city. The neighborhood is not a good area where I would walk around by myself, and I am traveling solo. I hadn’t been in this part of Athens before, so I didn’t know the area has lots of graffiti, many vancant buildings, and drugs being used on the street. When the taxi driver dropped me off at the hotel, he warned me to not go out by myself; he recommended ordering food to be delivered to the hotel. He didn’t even advise my going out during the day. When I asked the front desk person if the area was safe, he answered “Yes!” resoundingly, contrary to what I could see and feel for myself. My room had a balcony overlooking the street. I love hotel balconies and am willing to pay a few more euros to have one, but the street was decrepit so there really wasn’t anything to see or enjoy - disappointing. The breakfast offered by the hotel was meager. The hotel lobby was being renovated when I was there, so it’s definitely becoming a nicer. If the building could be picked up and placed in a different part of town, I would have given it a higher ranking.
