La Maison du Lac sits on the edge of a tiny hamlet nestled in the heart of chestnut country with dominant panoramic views over ancient woodland and Grand Jaques the tower of Chateau Montbrun which rises from the trees - the chateau to which Richard coeur de Lion was brought having been fatally wounded in Chalus. The countryside around here resonates with history and the local area is interlaced with many foot and cycle paths by which the area can be explored - the most interesting of which is surely the mown track leading through cornfields directly from the house to the Chateau bar/ restaurant which offers live music on Friday evenings. A fenced lake and orchard of châtaigniers belonging to the property, and which can be seen from the terrace and is only a 2 minute walk along the village road is accessible to our guests as a place to relax and forage (although fishing is not allowed). The local village, with basic provisions, is 2 mins away by car and there are several larger towns with supermarkets and restaurants within a ten minute drive. Should the table tennis, pool or many shelves of DVDs/books not prove entertainment enough many further activities such as go-karting ( the longest circuit in the Limousin) paintball, accro-bois and swimming lakes can be found within a 20 minute drive from the house and the Dordogne with all of it's own attractions is right on the doorstep. (NB. Please note that the pool is only heated from July to Mid September)
