Positive: Warm hospitality, great breakfast, exceptional afternoon tea and coffee, peaceful retreat in a busy town, This small hotel has only six rooms, each with its own unique charm. We booked the full screen sea-view room, and my 4-year-old loved it so much that she didn’t even want to leave. She has stayed 33 different hotels from Bvlgari level to Indigo level, where she mark this place in top 5. The swimming pool is quite basic compare to 5 star hotel, but it was cleaned daily changed water twice during our week-long stay, which we really appreciated. There are many nice books both english and chinese which you can borrow during the stay. The hotel only has a few staff members, which actually makes the experience more personal. You quickly get to know them, and they’re always ready to share local tips and help in any way they can. A special mention goes to the cleaning staff — truly exceptional. They’re observant and attentive, noticing your habits and arranging your belongings exactly how you like them. They tidy the room in a thoughtful way that is rare in our experience of Chinese hotels. As a picky person, I usually don’t like others touching my belongings, but I do want things to be cleaned and organized. Most hotels in China just make the bed and avoid moving guests’ items, which can leave the room feeling only half-cleaned. Here, however, you notice that they go the extra mile — e.g mopping the floor daily and neatly arranging all our shoes by size at the entrance. This small touch saved us time every day, especially with a child. We truly enjoyed our week here and would happily return if we ever visit Dali again.

Negative: A big downside is that the hotel doesn’t offer dinner service. However, this is understandable given the strong competition in town and the challenges of running F&B in China. On the bright side, they serve excellent afternoon tea and evening snacks, which my wife looked forward to every day. There’s no safe deposit box in the room, which made us a little uncomfortable at first, I guess that probably because most chinese guests don’t carry cash or physical ID, just the phone. However, there are cameras throughout all public areas. One more complaint is about the room door: while the rest of the hotel is modern and well-maintained, the traditional turn-key locks feel outdated and can be a bit tricky to operate (at least in our room). POS machine for mastercard and visa is limited to only 3000 RMB per transcation.
